STPCon Fall 2015 Conference Recap

jo-keyThe Software Test Professionals Conference, STPCon Fall 2015 in Framingham, MA was such a great success! We were so fortunate to have a great keynote lineup: Elfriede Dustin, with IDT, spoke on automated software testing and cybersecurity. Joseph Ours, with Centric Consulting, shared “Thinking Fast and Slow For Testers” with the audience. Jason Huggins, the father of Selenium and co-founder of Sauce Labs and Tapster, gave us insights to his role in the final stages of the Healthcare.gov website and the future of government software. James Bach, the father of Context Driven Testing, encouraged us to ask the question, “How Do I Know I’m Context Driven”?

Ever since we modified our conference program to have two days of workshops on Monday and Tuesday, we have experienced an enormous growth of in-depth instructional courses and tutorials, with topics covering agile testing, test leadership, management and coaching, test automation, performance testing, context driven testing, visual testing, and data testing. We even had a Testing Circus!

The conference breakout sessions on Wednesday and Thursday delivered so many great topics to the attendees. While we had the popular test conference topics of test automation, agile testing, performance testing, mobile testing, metrics, heuristics, context driven testing, DevOps, continuous delivery, test management, and test estimation, we were also fortunate to experience many other sessions. We were coached on how to use improvisation to move from “Jester to Tester“. We asked ourselves “Why Do Bugs Escape“? We were given directions on how to “Navigate the UX Jungle“. We looked at trends in the workforce to help us in “Leading the Next Generation of Testers“. We experienced “Infuriatingly Fun Performance Puzzlers“. We watched the “Rise of Bots“, and we were warned “Don’t Blink, Don’t Even Blink“. These are just a few of the great sessions that were presented throughout the conference.

One of the highlights of our Thursday sessions was having James Bach spend the day with us, after his keynote, sharing his insights on context-driven testing, coaching, agile challenges, estimation, and heuristics of testability in four sessions throughout the day.

We were proud to present some of the top tools vendors and consultants in the industry including:
Platinum Sponsor: Sauce Labs
Gold Sponsors: ASTQB, HP, Perfecto Mobile, Parasoft, and Smartbear
Silver Sponsors: Applause, Orasi, RBCS, and uTest
Media Sponsors: PerfBytes, Xamarin, and Zenergy Technologies

At each STPCon Fall event, we reach out to the community to nominate and award a Test Luminary. We had so many great, worthy nominees for this year. We were very pleased to announce that Michael Bolton was selected as the 2015 Software Test Luminary Award recipient. James Bach, our 2014 Software Test Luminary Award winner, read Michael’s acceptance letter, which encouraged us to continue to expand and build a diverse group of leaders in the testing community.

Our goal at Software Test Professionals will always be to deliver a world-class conference which will enable our attendees to learn something new, and most importantly, be able to take this knowledge back to their organization and spread the news. If you were fortunate enough to have attended this past conference, we would love to hear from you, most importantly if you were able to take something back and integrate it with your organization. We would like to share any quote or feedback that you give as we encourage others to attend our next conference. If you would like to share your experience, please send us an email to info@redwoodco.com.

We are already looking forward to the next STPCon. In April 2016, we are finalizing a location in Silicon Valley. We will be updating everyone as we finalize the venue and the dates. In the meantime, our Call For Proposals is open, and we encourage those of you who have knowledge to share or who have an experience (either positive or negative) that others can learn from, please consider submitting a proposal to speak!

Wishing you the best days of testing ahead!
